I went to Valvoline Instant Oil in Laguna Niguel and they wanted to charge $165 for an oil change.
Screw that.
That's wild. I've used their service multiple times now. Really fast service. In and out in 20 minutes. No appointment needed. Conventional oil change is about $50. They almost always have coupons available on their website so I've paid between $30-$40.
What kind of car and/or oil change were you looking to get? Had to be full synthetic, but obviously something else is being added. 😲
Oil changes will be a thing of the past. No oil changes needed on EV cars. We will all be forced to drive them sooner or later once they ban ICE vehicles. 😬
Valvoline is awful. This is a great time to support your small mom and pop places for the same price. Hell even the dealerships are cheaper than Valvoline..
$25 off overpriced service is still overpriced. Find yourself a good Indy shop. Buy your oil on sale or from Costco, Walmart, possibly with a rebate. Buy the filters from rockauto. You'll have an oil change with high quality materials for way less than the dealer or Valvoline.
Groupon has half off at a few Valvoline places around me very often, worth checking, makes my full synthetic changes less than dealership price, for those of us who don't/can't crawl and wrench and don't have oil recycling nearby

Look, you are probably a mechanic, and services like Valvoline Instant Oil change is eating your lunch, but it's a great service. No appointments. Drive up like it's drive through fast food. You stay in your car the entire time. In and out super fast. No shady stuff being done. You can see everyone working on your car. They show you your oil dip stick once they are done to show it was properly changed. Time is money. Nobody got time for mom and pop anymore. Valvoline Instant Oil change is exactly how oil change shops should be done.
I used to go to my car manufacturer's facility to get oil changes. But every appointment is like a 2 month's wait. Then when your appointment is happening you wait 40 minutes in some doctor's office type room. Can't see a thing they are doing. They try upselling you stuff while you are away from your car. It feels super sketchy.

Yes its like fast food. McDonalds is as good for your body as Valvoline is for your car.

They drain oil from your car and add new oil. It's not as complicated as you want to make it out to be.
There will be a LOT less car mechanics in the future due to EV cars not needing oil changes. Embrace the present. Speed and efficiency matters while we still have ICE vehicles on the road.
I've been buying international cars rather than U.S. cars since they are built better. Car mechanics probably hate me. For the past 6 years the ONLY things I've had done on my car are oil changes, tire rotations, and AAA replaced my battery and installed a new battery for like $100. They drove to my driveway and installed it within 30 minutes. Got to love speed and efficiency.

Dude. I am not a mechanic lol but sure its THAT simple... Not sure who hurt you bro but if you can't change your car battery maybe don't give car advice. FYI I am all for ev cars once Toyota starts making them.
I hope today is a better day for you.

No no no, you misunderstand. My car's battery was dead in my driveway. I called AAA, they came to my driveway (for free) in the middle of winter (outside temperature was like 30 degrees) and offered to replace my old (dead) battery with a new battery and install it. So easy. So fast. So cheap & efficient. You've got to love knowing too much. Don't hate me for knowing too much.

For free? 🤣
You mean to tell me that you don't pay for AAA roadside assistance?

Screw that.
It was a $100 +parts and disposal for my 4 cyl vehicle using full synthetic. Took out my tools and jack and did it myself for $40 with premium parts. 45 minutes of my time.
