If you're looking for a hardwired NACS charger, why would you want the Chargepoint over the Tesla Wall Connector which is $450?

When I bought my Tesla last month I was doing some research on the best NACS home charger there seemed to be two types of people that wanted a Tesla car but didn't buy the Tesla wall connector or the Tesla mobile connector.

The first group wanted a wall connector but wanted to use a 14-50, as you know the Tesla is hardwired only.

The second group wanted a Tesla but didn't want to further support Elon by purchasing any Tesla accessories.

ETA I bought the Tesla Wall Connector, I know the mobile would have been slightly cheaper but it would have required a more expensive GFCI breaker AND an high quality 14-50 outlet. I just bought a normal breaker from HD for like 30.00 and I had some 6/3 romex left over from another project so my install cost was minimal compared to adding a 14-50 and it chargers faster.

I would highly recommend hardwiring the higher amperage chargers over an 14-50 plug. While you should be fine with a QUALITY 14-50 receptacle, many people have issues melting the cheaper 14-50 plugs. It is not something you are going to move around and if you want to keep it if you move, it's not that hard to disconnect.

Also, with NACS being the standard EV plug moving forward in North America, it just makes sense to hardwire a NACS charger at this point. You can always slap a J1772 adapter on in the meantime if you have a non-Tesla vehicle. Nearly every EV in 2025 in NA is going to be NACS.

this isn't a charger it is an EVSE that outputs AC.

Utility providers offer discounted plans and rebates ($250) on certain chargers like this one.

We are 4-5 years away from that. The time to get an adapter will be when your regular stations start to change over and you notice lines of cars waiting to charge on the remaining CCS plugs. Any idea if J1772 to NACS adapter can be used by the folks who already got J1772 installed at their homes?

4-5 years from NACS? 2025 models are going to be NACS. We're talking about home EVSE's, not Level 3 chargers. Level 2 adapters are cheap. Level 3 adapters are not.

Edit: to your last question, yes. J1772 to NACS adapters work fine. I've used one on my Tesla at a few Level 2 J1772 stations. Tesla provides the adapter with the vehicle.

I did almost the same exact thing, but with an Emporia charger for $400. I also have a high quality 14-50 outlet with GFCI breaker. The GFCI trips almost every time at higher charging rates. If you hard wire it, no need for GFCI since they have their own internal ones.

At this price, there's no reason to choose a chargepoint over tesla or emporia. Price will drop more

4-5 years from existing CCS Public charging networks moving to NACS.
